Marilyn Monroe has some of the best quotes. For someone who seriously played the airhead/dumb blonde/sex symbol persona up she was actually quite intelligent and had some very poignant things to say. I guess it really is true not to judge a book by it's cover, this is especially true of women. If we have any signs of femininity like boobs or curves or wear makeup or clothes that show off said curves or anything we get written off as unintelligent airheads that can be run over by men or treated like pieces of meat. The fact is that while there are some completely moronic women out there that let men rule their lives and treat them like crap, most of us do not. We know what we've got and we know how to use it in a way that will benefit us and give us power. Marilyn Monroe was just another smart woman who knew how to create a persona to get ahead in life and I think that's pretty damn awesome.
So tonight I think I'll honor Miss Monroe and have little movie marathon of some of her best work and I leave you with a quote from the original blonde bombshell:
"This life is what you make it. No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And babe, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find your soul mate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about."
